Why does it take so long to buy a car?

This Labor day weekend I bought a new car and it took so long. I spent a total of six hours at the dealership. There seemed to be enough sales and finance people for the heavy traffic expected for Labor Day, yet I spent more time negotiating my trade, down, and monthly payment than I did picking out a car I liked. I told them my budget and they still wanted more from me? I almost walked out a dozen times until they agreed to my terms. I was wore out by the end and couldn%26#039;t wait to simply drive my new car home so I could go to bed.

Why does it take so long to buy a car?

THE MORE TIME THAT THEY MAKE YOU SPEND THERE, THE MORE THAT THEY CAN SELL YOU OR THE MORE YOU FORGET TO READ ON THE CONTRACT.

PROCESS CALLED THE %26quot;WEAR DOWN%26quot;.

Why does it take so long to buy a car?

Think of salesman. wth little markup we have to pay bills too. You negotiating took alot of time as salesman(most) cannot approve an offer. Dealers call wholesalers to get most for trade too. This takes time. On a 33,00 4-runner at Msrp a salesman makes about 350. Isn%26#039; t that fair. if you work at a stereo store can I negotiate a 10000 stereo to 6000? Would you be happy?

wow i bought one last week and the guy came and picked me up and we went to the bank and to the dealership and i was back home in an hour. I told him what i wanted that morning he made some calls and had it driven down from LA and i had it by the afternoon with everything i wanted and the right price. i guess i got lucky cuz im pretty picky.

I didn%26#039;t want to deal with that BS, so I called around to all the dealers saying I wanted the best price on my Honda Civic. I went to the dealer with the lowest price.

While I paid cash for my car, some things to keep in mind...

Look up Blue Book values and have printouts in hand when you go to the dealer to trade your car.

Have price quotes from other dealers.

Have financing pre-arranged. 95% of the time you can get a better financing deal from a credit union than you can from a dealer.

Go in knowing what extras you want... gap insurance? extended warranty (price negotiable) , etc.

MOST IMPORTANT: Read the contracts before you sign!!!! Many times the dealer will agree to one thing, then type something else in the form. This happens ALL THE TIME even at the most reputable dealers. Insist on accuracy on the form before signing.

They%26#039;re trying to wear you down to extract more money. It takes 5 minutes to run your credit and find out your approved financing rate. They will look at your trade in for 10 minutes at most and decide what to give you in a matter of minutes. It might take another 5 minutes to print out the paperwork, tops. If they didn%26#039;t screw around on purpose, the whole process would take an hour or less.

A friend of mine who sold cars admitted to me once that whenever he told people %26quot;I need to run that by my manager%26quot; or any other crap like that, all he did was go sit in another room and smoke a cigarette for 10 minutes, then come back and feed you more BS.

I won%26#039;t go so far as to say they%26#039;re screwing you over, but this is most certainly a sales tactic. If they can wear you out to the point you just want it to be over, they can suck more money out of you.
