Can I register a car that's been purchased under someone else's name?

Someone other than myself is paying for my vehicle. Can I still register the vehicle under my name and my insurance?

I guess what I%26#039;m asking is; Can a car be registered and insured under one person%26#039;s name, but it was purchased and financed under another person%26#039;s?

Not until the title has been transferred to you.

Yes--depending on what state you live. I%26#039;m not 100% sure but I think in California the answer is yes (someone I know is doing this). The car was purchased/financed by her dad, but she was able to register it and get the insurance in her name only. BUT her original insurance agency would not do this. Even if the state allows it, only a handful of insurance companies will insure a car not under the owner%26#039;s name. I%26#039;m pretty sure esurance and progressive (there might be more but not sure of) allows you to do this. But that is only if your state allows it. You probably have to check out your state%26#039;s dmv site.

The title, registration and insurance must all have the same name.

The name on the title is the name the registration is required to be in. As far as insurance, you normally cannot insure someone elses car. You could be an add-on to their policy though.
