i signed the contract but the dealer agreed to check the battery %26amp; replace it if needed (it is on the contract). i have not picked up the car yet.
if he does fix/replace, but the problem persists (problems starting a car) after i pay for the car, is there anyting i can do? (i have 90 day warranty). if it turns out to be some malfunction, can it be returned?
is it a bad idea to buy a car (from a dealer) for cash?
do they accept cash, or just checks, or money orders? is it ok to finance a part of the price with a credit card?
I will be buying my 1st car (from a dealer). what are some things to watch for when completing the paperwork?
When deciding to purchase a car you should check with your state%26#039;s laws. A lot of states have what they call a %26quot;lemon%26quot; law. Also, I always ask for the dealer to give me a %26quot;carfax%26quot;. Some states require them to provide it if you ask them to. If not, you can get the car Vin number and do it yourself. It%26#039;ll cost about $15, but it%26#039;s worth knowing if the car had previous problems or accidents.

DON%26#039;T LET THEM SELL YOU MORE INSURANCE THAN YOU NEED,AS IN WARRANTIES
THEY EARN MONEY FOR ALL THIS CRAP.
TELL THEM THAT YOU WANT ONLY WHAT THE LAW PERMITS YOU TO HAVE.

Congrats on your first purchase from a dealership. If it is a reputable dealer then ask for a copy of the work order from where the vehicle went thru their service department, that way you have it in writting of what they done and if they changed the battery that should be listed. If your battery go bad a few weeks after you get the car and you have it in writing that they put a new battery in it then that identify a different problem. A new battery should not go bad so quickly. Most dealers put a 90 day/3,000 mile warranty on their used cars but be sure to read the small print for that warranty. Most cases it is a powertrain only and it is a 50/50 warranty meaning the dealer pays half and you pay the other half. Bad part about that is,,,,, you don%26#039;t really know what half is. I saw where another person said not to get a warranty but I disagree with that especially if the car is out of factory warranty. You want to have atleast a couple of years protection for your own sake. Not a worse feeling than having to make a monthly payment on your car and then have to pay for a motor or transmission. That is a little extreme but is very common. I hope that this helps. Good luck.

Pfffffffff......allways keep the papers. Then, ask for whatever you need, meaning warranties (90 days seem so little to me). I suggest you read something about how the dealer things works, from an authorised source.
