I have entered into a new car contract in Victoria Australia yesterday (18/02/08).
After doing some further research regarding insurance and servicing I wish to cancel the contract.
I have left no depost and finance (as far as I know), has not been applied for. I have not signed any finance aggreement.
Can anyone help?

There is no cooling off period, read here for some more info, but if you have paid nothing they can%26#039;t take any money off ou unless they sue you which is unlikely.

Did you sign a contract to buy, and if so, what were it%26#039;s terms? If only a verbal agreement, then you have more room to move. Did you leave any identification details there, or give authority to start arranging finance? BEWARE: Every credit rating search will show up as an inquiry on you rating, and too many enquiries will reduce your rating, without any other thing happening. Ratings run for 3 years, continuously rolling.

i think if you sign a contract of sale, unless you specifically write in an extra clause stating something like %26quot;subject to finance and insurance acceptable by me%26quot; you might have agreed to this sale regardless of your reservations now on the contract.
best to speak to %26quot;dept of consumer affairs%26quot; in your state.
