I was trying to get a 2001 Chevy Tahoe for 10,990!! It drives good, engine, and transmission seems to fine!! I told the car salesmen that I could put down $1500.00!! I left, and he told me to call him in the morning..so I did, the finance manager told me that I couldn%26#039;t get finance for that vehicle because the bank wouldn%26#039;t approve...if I offer more for the down payment like 2500-2700...do you think that will be better...because she wants me to get a cheaper vehicle like a mini van, and they don%26#039;t have any vans that I like!! Do you think that will work a larger down payment!! I want that truck, because I have a large family, and we are in a new state, and we want to travel!! No ignorance, or I will report you!!!

It might help - the bank loan that you were approved for probably did not cover the cost of the Tahoe. Be sure to call the dealer and see if more money down will help.

Once a dealer knows you want a particular vehicle bad, he has you over a barrel. Simply thank them, ask for your $1500 dollars back and look elsewhere. Chances are, they will call you in a couple days with a different offer.
Check your local bank and credit union for financing options.

It could not hurt to offer a bigger down payment and see what happens. I had the same problem when I tried to buy my first car and only had $1000 down. I was able to come up with a total of $2500 down and my loan went through. Don%26#039;t settle for something you don%26#039;t like.

If you can put down another grand it might look favorable to the bank. Realistically though the bank wouldn%26#039;t approve because they thought you won%26#039;t be able to make the payments or you have a low credit score.
Try another lot, or find something a couple grand lower, and then still put down $2000 or $2500.
Good luck.

If they wont do the deal with $1500.00 then your credit is not that good, so you will need to put down at least 50% if you want that vehicle, good luck.

I would try the larger down payment if you are set on owning this vehicle. That way your loan amount that you are borrowing is lower and might be enough for the bank to take a chance on you.

Or, you could always go to your bank or credit union yourself, tell them how much money down you have, tell them what the price and vehicle is you are trying to buy, and see if you can get your own financing. If you can, then the bank will be able to give you a maximum amount that you can spend. Once you know that, you are not limited to that one dealership, you could shop around until you find the right vehicle that falls within your budget. Essentially thats what the dealers do when they shop different banks to get you approved. They have the benefit of being able to send your info to many banks at once, but its not really anything you cant do for yourself... plus, often times the dealer will sell you the car at a higher rate than what the bank approved, so they can make more money...
good luck!

First thing here...Don%26#039;t make threats against potential responses. This is a public forum and you open yourself to all kinds of answers. Some good , some not. Now that that%26#039;s out of the way, It sounds like you have pretty shaky credit. They don%26#039;t need to be telling you what kind of vehicle you need or want. Either put more down so you can get what you want, or wait until your credit is better so you can buy with a low down.
