I currently drive a 1997 Civic that I bought new in May 1997. I don%26#039;t drive much so it%26#039;s only got 130,000 miles on it (but has some body damage). Since I don%26#039;t drive much, I want to buy used this time around. I need a bigger car than a Civic. So i am looking at other models.
I%26#039;ve found a five speed 2002 Altima with 25,000 miles on it at a dealer. What should I expect to pay for it?
Do I finance with my bank or with the dealership? I have good credit so I should be approved for any loan.
Also, should I only look at cars that are %26quot;certified pre-owned%26quot;? What does that even mean?
Any advice on used car buying is much appreciated. I%26#039;ve never bought used before and am nervous of getting ripped off.

Tips:
First, do as much research as you can. Read consumer reports. You should target your search to one or two models. When you talk to the car dealer, you should know exactly what you want. Do not let the car dealer tell you what you want. Later you may find out that it is simply what you can afford.
Second,Price.Remember, buying a used car for cheap does not mean that you are going to get a clunker. Price does not necessarily translate into how well the vehicle will perform.Used cars are priced cheap for a reason. Be sure to find out why before you make a purchase. For example, government car auction usually typically listed at 90% off their original value because the government can閳ユ獩 afford to store these items.(This site lists top 5 goverment car auction sites: http://www.vehicle-auction.info/
You must check a car%26#039;s history records before buying a used car. It will help you eliminate half of the cars with potential problems. The car閳ユ獨 history records will tell you about serious accidents and heavy abused vehicles. You should always check the history before looking into a car.
Check out the car for yourself carefully. Opinion from your friends may not always be the truth about the vehicles. It is a good idea to ask a mechanic to help you. Don閳ユ獩 give a deposit before the car is inspected.
Check your paperwork very carefully.

They are probably going to ask around 10, 000 for it

I belive Vehix.com has an auto loan calculator. You should also check the Kelly Blue Book for an idea about what the car is worth. Expect to pay more than the car is worth, but knowing the real worth gives you some negotiating leverage.
Certified pre-owned means that the car has been inspected for various problems. You might also want to check a Carfax report. This will show up reported accidents, etc.
Be sure to take a good look at the body of the car. Look for cracks and other areas where the car has been wrecked. The question you might want to ask is why a six or seven year old car only has 25,000 miles.

If you have good credit, I would suggest financing thru your local credit union or bank. You%26#039;ll most likely get a better rate that way. As for Pre-certified that%26#039;s just a marketing tool to get you to think you%26#039;re getting more for your buck. Just hype.
