I have a 2002 Mercedes C230 that I bought in Aug %26#039;06. I financed for 6 years. (I was excited about being able to have a Mercedes, and it got the best of me) Well, it now has 65k miles and the engine is fine, just the oil changes are killing me, ($50 a pop) and just maintenance in general. About 3 weeks ago, my sunroof broke. I called Mercedes and they knew what was wrong by the description I gave. %26quot;I%26#039;ve seen this alot,%26quot; the guy said. Bottom line, I%26#039;m looking at at least $2000 for the repair. I don%26#039;t have money to just blow on that. Even if I didn%26#039;t go to the dealer. It%26#039;s hard for me to put that amount of money into a car that I still have to pay on for 4.5 years. I owe about $13,500 on it, and want to trade it for an %26#039;06 Civic. (No sunroof!) I%26#039;m hoping to be able to get my payments about the same, but I%26#039;d be looking at a warranty, less mileage, cheaper everything, but starting a new finance again. 6 years more than likely. So should I trade in the Benz? or save money for the repair?
Should I trade in my car? Or make the repair AND the monthly payments?
You%26#039;re upside down and you know that already. Why complicate matters further?? By fixing the sunroof you are only eliminating ONE of your issues. If you trade it for something more practical your payment will be higher than it is now (maybe), but the upkeep will be cheaper.
What happens if something else goes wrong with the C240? Your back in the same boat right?
Trade it in and buy an extended warranty on the next car. You obviously drive a lot of miles so the piece of mind will be well worth the cost even if you never have to use it.

you could take it to the body shop and get the sun roof shaved for $2000. and then you wouldnt have to worry about a sunroof. as for the oil changes. just get a guy friend to do it, the oil is like $3 a quart.

i would trade it in cause it takes a long time to come up with $2000

Don%26#039;t be cheap, make the repair then sell it privately. A dealership will probably give you $4000.00 for it in a trade, whereas you can sell it privately for about $10,000 %26quot;Kelley blue book value when it%26#039;s fixed.%26quot; If you bought it in 06%26#039; and still owe $13,500 on it, you got RIPPED OFF.
**You realize, say you trade it in for a civic, you will be UPSIDE down for about $10,000 if you trade it in, so more than likely you will be paying $25,000 for 1 $15,000 civic. Never trade in.
