What do i do if i bought a car from a used car dealership and less than a week later, the car shuts

I just moved from new york to georgia w/ my hubby and 8 mo old. I bought a 2001 Ford Escort andit had 116,000 mi on it on 4/14/07.About 3 days later the car shuts off and the service engine soon light is on. I took it back for them to fix and when i got it back and was driving home it home it did the same thing. They said the car is $7000 but i put $800 down but it%26#039;s really $1500 down. he sd i would hv to finish paying off the d/p before it can be financed.I got financed a week later b/c the buyers order clearly states i gv them $1500(basically lied) Now they still wnt me to pay them this money they lied about anyway and i havent paid a cent to them. I still pay the note and all but when it came to them fixing my brakes the lot refused to fix it saying its nt my problem. I went to a mechanic and 2-p codes came up and he sd my back breaks are done.I took pics but the man sd i shouldve been in an accident already. And the wrg vin # is on emi test. What should i do?

A good place to start is with your state department or the police for forgery on the car if the Vin number is different then the car was never sent to emissions and if it was not legal to sell the company cannot sell it. they should have to take it back and make it pass or destroy the contract. Contact the better business bureau immediatly they can help you with the business! do not drive the car if it is not safe and find out what the codes are. if it is an O2 code the likely problem stems from elsewhere in the engine and not the sensor. fixing the problem could be costly and you don%26#039;t want to get stuck with a lemon. SEND IT BACK if at all possible

You made 2 mistakes, buying an Escort and buying an Escort with 116,000 miles on it.

In ALL states there is a limited warranty. you also have 2 weeks to back out of any contract. Just take it back...and do this sneaky thing...ask to see the contract so you can verify the terms...when they hand it to you tear it in half and walk out..no damage done. they are trying to screw you so screw them back. There is a 30 day warranty on all cars sold...weather it be by an individual or a dealer. Knock them in the head and get another car from someone else.

depends on where u live but usually u have a 30 days to return it and get ur $$ back good luck!!

i am not sure how the law in the u.s is but it sould still be under statutory warrenty ie for the first 14 days after you buy something if you are not satisfied with it you have a right to return the product and claim a full refund or exchange

i assume that by vin# you mean vehicle identification number .

if this is true then the fact that it does not match the cear means that it is either stolen or it is what we brits call a cut and shut this means that is was originally a car that had been written off and reported as scrapped then rebiult using another car ie two cars welded together to make one

if this is true then the car should have been retested buy the ministry of transport (or whatever the u.s. equivelant is)

if not then there is little you can do except report this to the police and hope that you can gain a settlement through the small claims court (assuming that cut and shut cars are also illegal pin the u.s) it may also be worth reporting this delership to the trading standards people (agian i do not know what the u.s equivelant is)

ford? fix.or.repair.daily=ford. sorry too inform you but American cars are the worst. i had a Pontiac and when it hit 70,000 miles it started giving me problems. took it too one mechanic who told me to get rid of the car. Sad to say i never brought American again.Anyway usually theres like a warranty for 30days0r60days. and the dealer must guarantee the car to pass inspection. unless u brought the car as is. then ur in trouble

Take the car back to the dealer. Ask for half of your money back and tell them you will walk away without any further contact or recourse. If they say no then tell them you plan to call the Georgia Attorney Generals Office of Consumer Affairs and you plan to file a complaint. If they give you your money back then look for a 1994 thru 2000 Toyota Camry with more than 100,000 miles and less than 200,000 miles. Pay between $4,000 and $8,000 but before you give the money get a carfax report for about 35 bucks. Get a man or a very knowlegable woman to go with you to test drive the Toyota. Get on a road that is not very busy with traffic and stop and start the car several times. Drive it a various speeds listening for noise and feeling for shaking or vibrations. Turn on the AC, all the lights, test the heater, get a friend to stand outside the car and make sure the turn signals bright and dim headlights work etc. If you need to get financing go to a bank first. If your cerdit is poor then go to a respected dealer who will charge you a little more for the car and a little more for the financing. Then make your payments on time and use the car to build your credit back. Drive the Toyota till the wheels fall off. You will be able to pay it off and still have a car that will give you service. Change the oil every 3000 to 5000 miles and fix stuff as it needs it so it will still be reliable. When you are more able sell the car to an individual tell them the truth about anything that is wrong with the car and then buy a better Toyota. I am sorry for the trouble that the American car companies are having but they did it to themselves. A toyota is the best thing that has happened to the American consumer. There was a time when all I could afford was used with a lot of miles and I bought used Toyotas. Now I am able to buy a new car and guess what I am driving. No it%26#039;s not a Ford. Good Luck.
