First car: should I buy this one?

Hi there

Well I know absaloutly nothing about cars so I thought I would put this out here. I have been to a local garage who have offered me an X registration, Ford Fiesta Zetec 3 door hatchback, 1242cc, petrol engine, manual gearbox, with 88,000 on the clock. The price is 鎷?695 with a year%26#039;s warranty and 6 months tax. The car seems to be in very nice condition and drives well.

I was thinking I could keep it for a year until the warranty and MOT run out, then sell it and pay off what finance is left. The finance deal seems good, it works out at 鎷?00 added to the end price.

Any petrolheads out there lend their expertise?

Thanks!

Don%26#039;t forget that when you resell it you won%26#039;t get what you paid for it

i should join the aa or rac and get them to check it for you..

seems expensive to me for the mileage...small engine cars do less mileage than large engine cars...but you dont say how long since you passed test, age,,under 25yrs larger the engine the larger the insurance premium....caveat emptor.....buyer beware

If you know the local garage and they don%26#039;t appear to be a bunch of wide boys then why not. The price seems OK, assuming there are no major defects.

If you don%26#039;t want to go to the cost of professional advice, I would try and get a friend or relative who knows a bit about cars to give you a second opinion.

Happy driving. My first car was a Standard 10 that cost me 鎷?0. It had plenty of defects but so did I, and it was before the days of MOT%26#039;s.

Too many miles on this one, look for something else

First car: should I buy this one?

way to many miles on the clock wouldn%26#039;t advise. Old mini coopers make great first cars make sure it%26#039;s in good nick

The price is a bit more than I%26#039;d want to pay for a Feista, ecpecially with that mileage. You say the price is 鎷?695, you%26#039;re not actually going to PAY the asking price surely???? You need to haggle the price down, especially as the dealer will be taking a cut of the finance deal profit. Offer 鎷?,500 for it, and if the dealer won%26#039;t play ball, walk away. There are literally thousands of used cars out there, the ball is in your court!

Actual value with that mileage but also with full and complete main dealer service history including the proof of a cam belt change would be around 鎷?00 to 鎷?100 max.

Thats way too much money for a car of this age.

Reckon on paying no more than 鎷?00 at a garage - 鎷?00 at auction for a car that old.

Don%26#039;t forget - they are only designed to run for around 7 to 8 years so this one is on borrowed time.
