Car buying problem...please help me decide!?

Alright so here is the deal. My car of the past 3 years a Subaru LS 1996 just broke down and needs a new engine...so needless to say im going to need a new car.

My problem is im limited on funds right now. I manage a resturant at the moment and will soon be trying to find a better job within the next 6 months I hope.Until then I need a car to keep this place running correctly.

The two options ive found are

My father is trying to sell me his Subaru outback 2002 for 8,500 . Has 98,000 miles on it and hes going to get it looked at by a mechanic to fix any thing that are wrong with it.

He wants 300 a month for the next 28 months. And if an accident happens or I loose my job he will work with me on payments.

Or the other I found a 2007 Chevy Aveo 5 year warrenty for 10,000 sticker price,I know there is tax and finance charges for the next like 4 or 5 years on this one.But The warrenty sounds pretty good to have.

Can anyone help me figure this out? Ive never been good with this

I%26#039;d go with the Chevy Aveo for a few reasons:

1st-You will be paying only a couple of thousand dollars more for a brand new car without high mileage that has a warranty. Your dad%26#039;s Subaru is six years old, pushing 100K miles and there is NO warranty if something breaks. Plus, Subarus are not that cheap to fix. Plus the Chevy will be WAY better on gas the subaru will be VERY expensive to fill up!

2nd-If you finance the Chevy your notes will not even be close to $300 a month and you could put some money away in case you needed it, or you could pay more than the note and pay it off early if you wanted. Sure you%26#039;ll have interest and stuff, but I think it is worth if for the warranty and cheap note.

3rd- I don%26#039;t know how your relationship is with your pops, but when my now husband decided to buy some land his dad offered to GIVE him a couple of thousand dollars to put down on the property. They had an argument and now my father in law is CONSTANTLY demanding the money he says that he loaned my husband. He even tries to get me to pay him which is a very uncomfortable position to put me in. Even if you have a great relationship with your pops, if you don%26#039;t get his Subaru then there will not be a chance for hard feelings about it breaking down or you missing a payment.....even worse enjoying your life when you could be paying him. %26quot;You%26#039;ve got money to go blah blah, or buy blah blah but you can%26#039;t pay me back?%26quot;

Good luck, I hope this helped.

Im not reading all that

Car buying problem...please help me decide!?

are movies stars different people than real people

Personally, I would just find a cheap new or used car. A small car like the Aveo, or something like a Honda. Then purchase a large warranty with it so you don%26#039;t have to worry about it breaking down and not being able to get it fixed.

the outback all day long,

use your loaf girl!!!

Go with the Subaru. Older car, but how many miles do your really drive? And can you trust your father to really fix ANY and ALL problems before selling it to you.

Avoid that %26#039;07 Aveo. 1st year model. Never trust 1st year models.

Car buying problem...please help me decide!?

I%26#039;m not a real fan of domestic cars...the Subaru, even with the high miles, is better than the Chevy!

Your dad will work with you if a financial problem arises...a bank will take your car and not think twice.

Because your financial/job situation is shaky, I would take your dad%26#039;s help.

Car buying problem...please help me decide!?

go with Chevy leave father out of it otherwize things may go sour you see it all the time on Judge Judy

Car buying problem...please help me decide!?

Dads deal sounds best , theres that cushion in both payment and default !

Car buying problem...please help me decide!?

I would go with the newer car with less mileage. Your odds are greater that the car will last longer the newer it is and less mileage. You don%26#039;t know how well the older car was taken care of and the history of it.

O.M.G GET THE SUBARU Outback

how could you even think a aveo! my brother has one ther crap

Warranties are over rated. They almost never pay for themselves. Over the life of a car, you%26#039;ll always pay more for little things that are not covered in the warranty anyway, so its over hyped. I would go with the car from your dad. It%26#039;s less money, you won%26#039;t have to pay sales tax if you keep it between you, and likely, you won%26#039;t have to re-register it either. Plus, if you do regular maintenance and it still breaks down, your father%26#039;s wallet and conscience will support you far better than any warranty ever will. In the end, you should go with the cheapest deal you can find. That way you don%26#039;t get in over your head. Wait a few years until you%26#039;re out from under everything and have a great career, then splurge on something you really like. Good luck!

I would definately go with the chevy aveo. A suburu with 98000 for 8500 bucks is an awful lot of money for a car that could break down.

Hay I would go to a junk yard A good one and have them install a new to you but used motor for your car before your engine went did the car ride smooth? how is the body? It maybe worth your while and some places will work on payments with you and the motor will run you about 400.oo and labor 150.oo to 200.oo I would concider that!!

Car buying problem...please help me decide!?

I bought my car brand new (it was my first car) and honestly I wouldn%26#039;t advise it to anyone your taking a huge hit that, lets face it at the moment you could do without.

Subaru%26#039;s are great cars they last forever plus in 3 years you%26#039;ll be payed up as apposed to having a 1 or 2 years left to pay on a car that would only be worth slightly more than the Subaru.

Car buying problem...please help me decide!?

If you know how your dad drives and how well he takes care of his cars you should buy from your dad. plus if he is willing to work with you on the $ that makes the deal even better.

Car buying problem...please help me decide!?

I would go ahead and buy your father%26#039;s vehicle, if anything happens such as loss of job or even anything else financially then you can work with your father. Buying a vehicle from a car lot and get into financial instability can lead to loss of car and loss of a good credit score. Leaving you with no car and later on hard to find other things that you may need considering credit.

I understand your dilemma. I wouldn%26#039;t go with the 2007 due to the fact that insurance and finance charges might put you in a bad position finicially. If I were you I would go with your fathers car but NOT for that price. Tell him that you could $7000 and most likely he will think that%26#039;s fair enough. Your dad is going to help you out it seems and he could %26quot;pay%26quot; your car not for christmas and for your birthday (you will get to keep your 300 those months). You would save a lot and most people can trust their parents.

How many mile are on the Aveo,Also what is the interest rate on the car loan and for how many months will you be paying on it

Car buying problem...please help me decide!?

Those Aveos are very good deals for the money, and actually decent cars. That would be my personal preference. It%26#039;ll last alot longer than the Subaru because of the Subaru%26#039;s mileage.

Car buying problem...please help me decide!?

Personely, I own two Aveo%26#039;s, 04%26amp;07. I perfer the subcompacts myself. The two that I own don%26#039;t have any more problems than any other brand that I have owned in the past.(Honda%26amp;Toyota). For value for the money you really can%26#039;t beat the Aveo. They have a better powertrain warrenty(5yrs 100,000mls) than Honda or Toyota(3yrs 36,000mls). The insurance on mine is very reasonable, 1300 a year for full coverage on both. I have 47000mls on the 04 and I have had no major problems with it thus far.

There are several dynamics in your question that only you know the precise answers to that make your question more than just do I choose %26#039;A%26#039; or %26#039;B%26#039;

First and most important is for you to know exactly what your financial situation is. to make it as brief and simple as possible, you should list what your net monthly income is (after taxes and any other withholdings). Then write down all of your monthly expenses... and I do mean all of them... including what you spend on yourself (entertainment, hobbies, movies, etc). Only once you%26#039;ve done this can you really begin to gain a direction for your answer.

Knowing your financial information you can easily find a loan calculator on the web to help you determine what your payments will be on the Aveo vs. what your father is offering (28 payments @ $300 is $8,400 by the way). When you are calculating your payments on the Aveo I wouldn%26#039;t go over 48 months on this type of low end car. You won%26#039;t want to have it that long and they aren%26#039;t known for their durability.

The price, however, your father is offering you on his car is pretty much a retail price for a car that has a whole bunch of miles on it... but you know your father and his car, I do not.

You mention your job and that you might be changing. Only you know the stability of your working situation and your career. I also don%26#039;t know anything about your credit or even if you%26#039;ve established any at all. If your new to financing and have never financed much, the interest rate you end up with on the Aveo may be quite high; which means you%26#039;ll pay much more that $10,000 for the car. Plus, the Aveo down the road will have little to no trade in value, so if you finance it, you%26#039;ll forever be upside down in the car.

The bottom line is that the Aveo will will put you at more of a financial risk simply because you%26#039;ll be financing it. So, you%26#039;ll need a higher comfort level of your finances and your job as opposed to going with your father%26#039;s car. If you%26#039;ve got doubt about your job or have not settled into a career yet, I would go with your father%26#039;s car. This comes without the financial and credit risk should you get between jobs for a while (assuming your father won%26#039;t take you to small claims court for missing payments... but only you would have a feel for that).

No matter which you choose, the point I%26#039;m trying to get across here is that you should be making your decision based on putting your financial situation on paper and crunching the numbers on both sides and be brutally honest with your money habits... and pay less attention on the cars themselves.

Best wishes and good luck to you!

jeff
